Community Tours, CBT Project
Community Based Tourism (CBT) projects in the Pa-O region in Southern Shan State, Myanmar. CITPAR’s projects strive to be community driven and take into account the needs, concerns, and interests of local people. CITPAR focuses on the people who live in the Pa-O region and strive to benefit them by providing job opportunities and creating sustainable income for the communities.
CITPAR’s projects are supported by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), Myanmar Institute for Integrated Development (MIID), Parami Development Network (PDN) and the Myanmar Ministry of Hotels and Tourism.
As CITPAR was founded with the aim of developing communities in the Pa-O region, at least 45% of CITPAR’s income goes directly to local staff and participating villages. For example, when a visitor hires a local helper for visiting participating villages, the helper receives the better part paid by the visitor for his/her service. Also service fees for special arrangements in the villages like entertainment and village activities together with a visitor fee go directly to the village fund. CITPAR also directly contributes to the village funds of each participating village for village developments. CITPAR provides handmade souvenirs trainings to local villagers for getting additional income by selling those souvenirs to visitors.
The CITPAR Tour Program is run in cooperation with Village Committee members and CITPAR’s staff. Each participating village chose 15 committee members, working together with CITPAR’s staff to build or renovate community houses for the customers’ accommodation, sending local workers to trainings, and preparing the CITPAR tour program. Since the launch of CITPAR, the committees have been taking the responsibility of bringing the customers to the village, hosting them at the community houses, serving food and beverages, and organizing entertainment and community learning activities.

Wir haben die Tour Yangon, Bagan und Thandwe gewählt. Dei Sehenswürdigkeiten in Yangon wurden uns in einer interessanten 2-TagesTour (jeweils am Nachmittag/Abend) gezeigt. Der absolute Höhepunkt war die Atmosphäre in Shwedagon Pagode am Abend, einzigartig :-). Die Abholung vom Hotel und die Fahrt zum Flughafen am nächsten Tag war pünktlich. "I think I was one of the first tourist joining this tour! But it was really worth every single $. After a short drive we came to a small village where the bike-men where waiting for us. I and my travel mate used modified 9 days promotion offer in November 2018 for visiting Yangon, Inle Lake, Bagan, and Mandalay. Asian Tour provided accommodation in shared twin rooms with daily breakfast, domestic airfare Heho-Bagan, public bus from Yangon-Heho, a public boat from Bagan-Mandalay, private pick-ups in each place. The tour, arranged by Asian Tours, was excellently handled from start to finish. The hotels were mid-range and comfortable with excellent breakfasts and acceptable WiFi services.The tour itself was very interesting places, from Mandalay to Barak to Yangon, our final destination. This holiday was totally unique, the ten-days was the perfect getaway from work, just what I needed. I booked a one-day photography workshop with world-famous photographer Maung Maung through ASIAN TOUR.
