Myanmar Family Tour - 10 days / 9 nights

Grab an excellent opportunity to spend your vacation with family in the unspoilt land of Myanmar. See iconic sites and famous cities as well as fun activities such as circular train ride, horse cart ride, cooking class, elephants and beach break.

This family-focused tour, which can be tailored to your own interests and needs, starts and ends in bustling and fast-changing Yangon. Travel to temples at ancient city, Bagan, then onwards to the lush Shan Hills to pedal past elephants, hill tribes and Inle Lake. Finish with relaxing beachside fun on the beautiful white sands of Ngapali Beach.

Recommended travel period: Throughout the year. From May to September, there are limited flights and accommodation for Ngapali Beach.

Day 1

Arrive Yangon

Upon arrival at Yangon Airport, welcomed by your guide and transferred to hotel (hotel check-in time is 14h00). Your guide will arrange lunch break (on your own account) depending on your flight arrival time.

The journey begins with the transfer to Thamine railway station where you will take a train ride on the Circle Line. While waiting for the train, you can stroll around the interesting local market nearby to see the bustling local daily market scene. Enjoy and experience the train ride in the midst of local life; if possible, chat to curious travelers with sacks of vegetables heading to local markets. The train passes from station to station you have a great opportunity to observe the life of Yangon dwellers. The ride will take approximate about 1 hour and get off at Pyay Road Railway Station.

Proceed to Yangon Colonial City Center and take a short walk to explore the atmospheric colonial-era streets. Visit the Bogyoke (Scotts) Market (closed on Monday and Gazette Holiday), a compound of hundreds of stalls and shops, that gives you the opportunity to see Myanmar's wide range of handicrafts. Take a photo stop at the Karaweik Hall, a 'hamsa-bird-shaped' floating barge on Kandawgyi (Royal) Lake and stroll through the Kandawgyi Park. Evening, visit to one of the world’s most spectacular monuments, the Shwedagon Pagoda for sunset viewing.

Day 2

Yangon – Bagan (AM flight)

After breakfast, transfer to airport for domestic flight to Bagan. Upon arrival to visit the Colorful Local Market and continue the day with visits to the most significant pagodas and temples of Bagan including Shwezigon Pagoda, built by King Anawrahta in the early 11th century as a religious shrine; small monastic school at Zay Ta Wun Monastery; Gu Byanuk Gyi, a temple with superb murals of Jataka scenes. Next stop is Htilominlo, the last Bamar-style temple built in Bagan, which boasts old murals and friezes. Continue to Ananda Temple, with four standing Buddha images and a photo stop at Bagan's tallest temple; 61 metre-high Thatbyinnyu, known as the 'temple of omniscience'. For lunch break (on your own account) your guide may arrange at Ayeyarwaddy River Terrace Restaurant or depending on your wish.

Afternoon visit a Lacquer ware workshop where you'll learn how to produce in artistic way even a small piece of souvenir. Then, explore Bagan by horse cart, in the late afternoon before sunset, through the village of Minnanthu and see how local people live. Finally proceed to a temple (available to go up) or sunset hill depending on which you may choose for a view of sunset over Bagan.

Day 3

Bagan / Free

Today is free to relax and further explore Bagan as you wish.

Optional: Experience the magic of Bagan and a thousand years of history from the enchanting platform of a hot air balloon, for the first time ever. Balloons in Bagan offer visitors exclusive sunrise champagne flights over the ancient pagodas of Bagan from late October to April.

Day 4

Bagan – Heho (AM flight) - Green Hill Valley Elephant Camp – Kalaw

After breakfast, transfer to airport for domestic flight to Heho. Upon arrival, drive (59 km - 1 ½ hours) to visit Green Hill Valley Elephant Camp. Then embark on a short walk to the river, passing through a reforestation project set up by the camp and villagers. The elephants will likely be enjoying a refreshing swim in the stream and you can join the mahouts to bath these gentle animals if you wish.

Children will love becoming zoo keepers as they make a splash bathing with the elephants. Return to the main camp for lunch (Included in package price). If there is time in the afternoon to explore more on foot with the local trekking guide or interact with the elephants. Then drive to Kalaw (27 Km, 1 hour drive), a fresh and delightful hill station, situated on the rim of the Shan Plateau, and transfer to hotel.

Day 5

Kalaw – Inle Lake

Kalaw is a lively market town where many ethnic minority people of the surrounding areas buy and trade their goods. Visit Kalaw Market and town before drive to Nyaung Shwe (62 km, 2 ½ hours). Lunch break (on your own account) will be arranged on the way or during Inle Lake visits depending on your wish.

Day excursion by boat on the Inle Lake will include sights of the famous leg rowers, typical floating gardens, and local methods of fishing, village life and magnificent scenery. Start visit to the Phaungdaw Oo Pagoda, one of the most sacred shrines in Myanmar, dating back to the 18th century; Silver Smith, Black Smith, Cigar and Weaving Workshops in Ywa-Ma and Inpawkhon. And also visit Padaung Family (If the Padaung Family is still in Inle Lake) and the Nga Phe Kyaung Monastery wonderfully carved wooden floating monastery in the lake. Return back to hotel in Nyaung Shwe.

Day 6

Inle Lake - Indein - Cooking Class With Lunch

After breakfast, the visit begins with the local market in the Inle Lake region (Remark : on market days only). Then proceed to the Western Shore of Inle Lake, where you will find the beginning of a stair path leading to the well hidden Indein complex.  Visit one of the most amazing historical sights on the shore of the lake consisting of hundreds of small stupas overgrown by moss and green vegetation.

Continue to an Intha family’s house or local restaurant and join them in preparing lunch. Using local produce, herbs and freshly caught fish, prepare a feast of traditional dishes handed down from generation to generation of Intha families. Sit down around a large wooden table, local-style, and enjoy a delicious lunch in the company of a warm, hospitable local family.

After lunch, continue on foot to a village nearby where several crops are grown in traditional ways. Walk in an easy pace along one of the many creeks passing through rice fields to the village of Sae Ma. Visit the primary school of the village and possibility to meet the children and teachers to observe their way of learning and teaching. Return back to Nyaung Shwe.

Day 7

Inle Lake – Heho – Thandwe (by flight) – Ngapali Beach

After breakfast, transfer you to airport for domestic flight to Thandwe, the gateway to Ngapali Beach. Upon arrival to Thandwe, transfer to your hotel (provided by the hotel). Rest of the day is free.

Day 8

Ngapali Beach

Breakfast at hotel. Day at leisure to enjoy the crystal clear waters and un-spoilt paradise beaches of Ngapali. You can swim, snorkel or take leisurely strolls along the ocean. Board a boat to explore the offshore islands (available at hotel) or rent a bicycle for a trip to the fishing villages and colorful markets nearby. Watch the breathtaking sunset above the Bay of Bengal. (Activities are not included in our package)
