Payathonzu (Three Pagodas Pass)

It is one of the Myanmar-Thai border check-point is 470 km by road from Yangon. Now we can cross the border with the permit to proceed to the other parts of Myanmar. The self-driving trips, caravan trips, etc., are now under project. Wat Suwankhiri, Kloeng Thaw Falls, located 12 km from the border, etc., are the highlights of Payathonzu.

Thanbyuzayat (Tin Rest-house)

About 60 km from Mawlamyine, there is a large, well maintained war cemetery for thousands of Allied prisoners-of-war who died during World War II constructing the infamous death railway for the Japanese. Guangsay Island is also a nice place to consider if we have extra time. Another 28 km brings one to Kyaikhami or Amherst, a popular coastal resort during British times with its well-known Kyaikhami pagoda-in-the-sea. Setse Beach, a 20 km, driver away, is a favorite with local residents but no tourist infrastructure yet in terms of accommodation and dine. It can be done day return trip from Mawlamyine.

Moeyungyi Wetland Wildlife Sanctuary

It is located 112 km (03/04:00 hours drive) from Yangon. It has an area of 64 square kilometers, established in 1986. More than 20 species of aquatic grass and herb including Kiang grass and water are present in the sanctuary and Nestea (Osyka officinalis) grow particularly in shallow area of the sanctuary. Especially Kaing grasslands are the most suitable breeding ground for water birds.
There is only one three stars resort and it can be done day return trip from Yangon, Bago and Taungoo.

Taungoo

Located 175 miles from Yangon and is the only place for the tourists where you can get good accommodation on Yangon – Mandalay road. Taungoo (Kaytumadi City) was founded by King Mingyinyo in 1510 A.D and later innovated by King Mine Kyawhtin.
It is one of the main gateways to Bago Yoma and its teak forests in which you can see how elephants work. But the working site is not stable as it is moving around, so need to follow where they are. Taungoo is only good as a stop over to avoid tedious (14 hours) drive between Yangon and Mandalay. However, if ones wish to visit Elephant camp call "Thargara", one night stay in Taungoo is recommended.

Thargara (Pho Kyar) Elephant Camp

It is situated in the fascinating Bago Yoma, which means Bago mountain ranges. It is the home of the best teak, and the topography of Bago Yoma is a place of genuine beauty. It can be reached by car from Taungoo, 7/8 hours drive from Yangon. You can explore the scenic beauty of Bago Yoma by taking a walking tour in the villages.

Myaing Hay Wun Elephant Camp

96 km by car from Yangon, 13 km of unpaved road and 7 km of forest road is the location of 10 acres wide elephant camp. Elephant, Gaur, Barking deer, wild boar, and Hare Wild cat, Green Peafowl, Hill myna, Blossom-headed parakeet, Pheasant, Red jungle fowl, Quail, Dove, Duck, lesser tree duck, Butterflies, Moths, Snakes, Monitor lizard, Ground lizard, Grass lizard and Chameleon are present.
The accommodation is very simple and only camps or village’s houses are available.

Pyay (Prome)

Pyay is located about 285 km (6 hours drive) north of Yangon, on the eastern banks of the Ayeyarwaddy. Visitors can stop over in Pyay and travel on to Bagan and Mandalay. A few kilometers north-east of the town is Thaye Khittaya (Sri Ksetra), an archaeological site of the ancient Pyu capital (5th to 9th Century). Shwesandaw Pagoda, Hsehtakyi Pagoda, Shwe Phone Pwint Museum, Bawbawgyi Pagoda, Bebegyi Pagoda, Payagyi and Payama Stupas are other places of interest in and around Pyay. "Ahkauktaung" which was the custom port in the ancient time, is known for its curving on the cliff along the river.

Pathein

Situated in the Ayeyarwaddy Delta about 190 km west of Yangon. It is the capital of the Ayeyarwaddy Division (the delta region) and the gate way to Chaungtha and Ngwe Saung beach which are 40 km and 48 km away from Pathein. It is easily reached by road or by cruise through the complex Ayeyarwaddy river. As Ayeyarwaddy Division is known as the rice bowl of the country the landscapes are predominately rice fields with other colorful crops. Pathein is well known by it production of unique parasol locally call "Pathein Hti (Umbrella)" and "Pathein Halawar (traditional Snack).
