RV Pandaw II, Operated by the Irrawaddy Flotilla Company

Schedule: Mandalay / Bagan / Chindwin Cruise and Bhamo Cruise

RV Pandaw II is an enlarged newly built version of the Pandaw 1947 (formerly Pandaw I), with 2 accommodation decks and an observation deck above. She was introduced into service in October 2001. The colonial design favored by the first Irrawaddy Flotilla Company was faithfully reproduced to create the same atmosphere of the ever popular Pandaw I. All 22 cabins reflect the generous size and original style of Pandaw I and also open onto the teak promenade decks that run around the ship. Facilities such as dining room, saloon etc. are the same as on Pandaw I. All cabins are fully air conditioned with full amenities such as shower, toilet, bathrobe and mini safe. The Observation deck is the perfect spot to be while cruising, a bar serves refreshing drinks. For a pre or after dinner cocktail, an air conditioned saloon with a colonial atmosphere provides the perfect setting.

Every effort will be made to ensure that the published itinerary is followed as closely as possible, however, given uncertain river and other local conditions, all schedules and itineraries are subject to alterations and delays at short notice.

RV Pandaw (1947)

Schedule: Mandalay / Bagan, Chindwin Cruise and Bhamo Cruise

A journey on Burma's Irrawaddy River is one of life's great travel experiences. No vessel could be more appropriate for this than the RV Pandaw 1947, OPERATED BY AYRAVATA CRUISES.

Originally built in Scotland in 1947, the Pandaw 1947, formerly known as Pandaw I, is since January 2004 operated by Ayravata Cruises.

The RV Pandaw 1947 is 150 feet long and was powered by a stern paddle, now replaced by modern engines. Up till 1997 she still carried local cargo and passengers. Conserving many original features, 16 comfortable staterooms with air-con and en suite shower rooms have been added. Finished in local hardwoods and furnished with period pieces, the vessel offers true Asian charm combined with a Mediterranean touch. The style is highlighted by old pictures of Mandalay, a collection of contemporary abstract paintings and magazine cover reproductions of the 50's and 60's. Promenade decks enable passengers to sit outside their cabins in teak chairs. Accessories such as designer ashtrays, lacquer ware, mats and many other items have been added to create a cosy atmosphere of a floating boutique hotel.

All cabins are air-conditioned and are 14 x 12 feet in size containing a shower room with hot and cold water. Interior walls are finished with hard wood tongue and groove panelling and on the upper deck the original teak decking was retained. Beds are traditional teak ship cots with brass marine fittings. Local hand-woven fabrics are used for the curtains, bed covers and cushions; there are no mini-bars or TVs! Cabin windows have insect netting fixed so windows may be kept open at night in preference to the air-con.

The old first class 'saloon' on the upper deck over the bow has been preserved as the Observation Lounge with a cocktail bar. The dining room is conceived as an extension of the open deck space with fold back doors to allow the breeze to pass through.
