Strand Hotel (* * * * *) (Landmark Hotel)

Built in 1901 and reopened in November 1993, after extensive renovations. The Strand Hotel is Myanmar’s most luxurious hotel and at the same time one of Southeast Asia’s few grand colonial style hotels. The property is comparable to its sister hotel the Raffles in Singapore and to the Oriental in Bangkok. The atmosphere of the past still lingers beneath the potted palms and gently twirling fans.

Location: In main commercial district on Strand Road, near the waterfront overlooking Yangon River. 35 minutes drive from the airport.

Rooms: The graciously appointed suites are located on the two upper floors. All Suites offer full amenities such as satellite TV, individually controlled air-conditioning, bathtub, telephone, hair dryer, mini-bar and a safety box. A personal butler is on the call 24hr a day. The 8 Superior Suites (50 sqm) are beautifully decorated.

The Strand Suite is the best room available in the hotel. The room is enormous (200 sqm) and has a separate living room as well as a dining room. This suite has a lovely veranda overlooking the Yangon River.

These rooms have also a separate sitting room. The 23 Deluxe Suites are similar but slightly larger (55 sqm) and have better view over the Yangon city.

The Governor’s Residence (former Pansea Hotel) (* * * */ *)  (Boutique Hotel)

This small luxurious first class boutique hotel is a real jewel. It is a perfect combination of an old colonial mansion in a beautiful garden, with modern facilities, perfect design and very warm, personalized hospitality.

Location: Hidden in a quiet residential area, surrounded by foreign embassies. The National Museum is within few minutes walking distance, to the Shwedagon Pagoda it takes around 30 minutes to walk. The drive downtown takes only 10 minutes and to the airport approx. 25 minutes.

Rooms: All rooms are very tastefully furnished with tropical hard woods. All rooms are equipped with amenities such as individually controlled air-conditioning, IDD telephone, safety-box, mini-bar and bathrobes. Complimentary fruit basket is provided on arrival.

The 14 Deluxe rooms (39 sqm) and 19 Deluxe Garden rooms (39 sqm) are similar in décor and amenities only the view being different. Both room types have a bathtub. The 12 new Governor’s rooms (42 sqm) are slightly more spacious and have all of the above mentioned amenities and flat screen TVs. This room type has shower only and garden views. The hotel has 2 Junior Suites which are larger (64 sqm) in size and have garden view. There are also 2 family suites which are slightly smaller (60 sqm) but consist of two rooms and can accommodate up to 4 people. The Family Suites also have garden views.

Facilities: On the ground floor of the old colonial mansion with a terrace overlooking the pool you will find the Bar, just across the French fine dining in Mandalay restaurant which opens onto a terrace and the beautifully decorated garden. Upstairs an open air Lounge in tropical design invites for reading and relaxing in classy boutique style.

Savoy Hotel **** (Boutique Hotel)

A charming low rise boutique hotel of beautiful colonial architecture and professional and friendly service. Everybody feels immediately at home here.

Location: Ideally located in a picturesque area of Yangon within walking distance of the Golden Shwedagon Pagoda, just 10 minutes drive from the main commercial district and 30 minutes from the international airport.

Rooms: The 24 Deluxe rooms are spacious (46 sqm) and tastefully decorated in colonial style. The room amenities include individually controlled air-conditioning, a fan, satellite-TV with in house movies, mini-bar, IDD telephone, safety box and a hair dryer. The 6 Souvenir Suites are larger (82 sqm) and offer all of the above mentioned amenities and have an extra living room.

Facilities: The Captain’s bar is a popular meeting place for Yangon’s expatriate community, Cafè Yangon invites with its tranquil atmosphere to lounge, chat and read, at Kipling’s you dine in style, some tables offer a glimpse view of the spectacular Shwedagon Pagoda while at Rossini Restaurant you will find a choice of Italian dishes and wines. Sedona Hotel (* * * *)

Modern, international first class hotel. Sedona Hotel is a popular venue for conferences and meetings, but equally favoured for leisure thanks to its generous space concept and excellent facilities.

Location: On Yangon’s famous Kaba Aye Pagoda road. Within a 20-minute drive from the Yangon International Airport and the city centre. Opposite to the Inya Lake.

Rooms: All the rooms and suites are tastefully decorated and fitted with modern amenities. Each room has individually controlled air-conditioning, satellite TV with in house video channel, mini-bar, safety box, IDD telephone and a hair dryer.

The 94 Superior and 158 Deluxe rooms (32 sqm) have nearly the same amenities. The room type difference is that the Superior rooms are located on 3rd and 4th floor and the Deluxe rooms are located on the 5th and 6th floor.

The 20 premier Suite and 48 studio suites offer the same kind of facilities as the above but are slightly larger (42 and 48 sqm respectively). The 6 balcony suites (56 sqm) offer an ample private balcony with view either over Inya Lake or over the pool area. The 2 Princess Suites (110 sqm), as well as the Ambassador Suite (141 sqm) and Royal Sedona Suite (173 sqm) are all very large and spacious and offer very high standard accommodation.

Deluxe class 22-storey international business hotel. The Traders Hotel is a popular venue for meetings, fairs, weddings and other large events.

Location: Right in the heart of Yangon’s busy city centre. Only a few steps away from major sights such as Sule Pagoda and Scott market. Within short walking distance from all services. 30 minutes drive from the Yangon airport.

The hotel has one Traders Club Suite (120 sqm) with a separate bedroom and living room and a wonderful view over the Shewedagon Pagoda. Last but not the least The Traders Suite (182sqm) the largest and most impressive of all and comes with a spectacular Shwedagon Pagoda view.

Chatrium Hotel (former Hotel Nikko Royal Lake) (* * * *)

International first class business & city hotel in peaceful and natural surroundings near the Kandawgyi Lake.

Location: 30 minutes drive from the airport and a mere 10 minutes from Yangon’s city centre, the Chatrium Hotel is located near a quiet residential area overlooking the lush green landscape of the Royal Kandawgyi Lake and parks.

Rooms: 310 well appointed and comfortable guestrooms and suites. All the rooms have the following amenities: air-conditioning, Sat TV, mini-bar, telephone, shower and bathtub and a hairdryer.

The 165 Superior, 62 Deluxe and 29 Nikko Floor Deluxe rooms are similar size (40 sqm), the main difference is that the Superior rooms are located 2nd – 6th Floor, Deluxe rooms are situated on 7th – 8th Floors and Nikko Floor Deluxe rooms are on the 9th Floor. All these rooms have both Lake and Shwedagon Pagoda view or City view only.

The 8 Corner Deluxe rooms are slightly bigger (55 sqm) and have Lake and Pagoda view.

The hotel also offers Suites style accommodation. The 10 Studio (61 sqm) and 8 Junior (70 sqm) Suites have city view only. The 5 Luxury (85 sqm) and the 15 Deluxe (75 sqm) Suites have Shwedagon Pagoda and Kandawgyi Lake View. The 7 Executive Suites (112 sqm) and have either city view only or Lake and Pagoda view. The largest room in the hotel is the Royal Lake Suite (300 sqm), which offers Pagoda and Lake View.

Park Royal Hotel (* * * *)

International first class business hotel in the centre of Yangon, formerly called the Sofitel Plaza Yangon and Grand Plaza Park Royal.

Location: In the city centre next to one of Yangon’s few shopping plazas, only minutes walk from the famous Scott market. 30 minutes drive from the airport.

Rooms: All 300 rooms and suites are spacious and decorated with atmospheric traditional materials. All rooms feature satellite television, IDD telephone, air-condition, mini-bar, bathtub, safety box and a hairdryer.

The 118 Standard rooms and the 102 Deluxe rooms have same size (35 sqm) and are very similar. The main difference being that the Standard rooms are located on the 3rd, 4th and 5th floor, while the Deluxe rooms are on the 6th and 7th floor.

The 49 Orchid Club rooms also have the same size (35 sqm) but are located on the 8th floor, which is the Club (Executive) Floor. Some extras services are offered here such as Club guests’ breakfast.

The 30 Executive Suites and 30 Orchid Club Executive Suites are more spacious (70 sqm).

The Presidential Suite (172 sqm) offers full comforts and amenities and has view over the Shwedagon Pagoda.

Facilities: The Cantonese and Szechuan cuisine can be found at the Phoenix Court Restaurant, while the Japanese Restaurant Shiki-Tei offers sushi and sashimi as well as private tatami rooms. Kandawgyi Hotel (* * * *)

International first class hotel with casual holiday resort feeling. The property is a unique oriental style construction, a harmonious mix of classic Myanmar architecture and oriental arts and décor. The hotel has extensive gardens and beautiful pool area.

Location : On the shore of the tranquil Royal “Kandawgyi” Lake amidst a lush tropical garden, only 10 minutes drive away from the bustling city centre or Shwedagon Pagoda and 25 minutes drive from the airport.

The 185 Superior rooms (32 sqm), have all the standard amenities.

The rooms situated on the lower floor have a garden view, while the upper floor rooms have a Shwedagon Pagoda view.

The 15 Lake Front Deluxe Rooms (50 sqm) are tastefully built and all have a private balcony looking towards the lake and the standard room facilities as above.

The 4 Diplomat Suites and 8 Corporate Suites are larger (55 sqm). The main difference between the two is that the Diplomat Suites have garden view, while the Corporate Suites have Kandawgyi Lake or Shwedagon Pagoda view. The decoration is also slightly different between these 2 suite categories.

The 5 Governor’s Suites are larger (65 sqm) and offer Pagoda view from the rooms.

The 2 Presidential Suites (90 sqm) are very spacious and come with Jacuzzi. One of these rooms features a private veranda and a private garden right on the lake’s bank. The other, built on the third floor offers a big outdoor pavilion/veranda in a private viewing tower which can be accessed only from the room. Both have lake view.

The 2 Imperial Suites are even larger (120 sqm) and both offer large outside verandas and Jacuzzis. The 2 Royal Bungalows (250 sqm) are private luxury villas hidden in the tropical garden facing the lake. They consist of elegant high teakwood roof bedroom and a living room with a Jacuzzi in the centre, a spacious bathroom, open air shower, small private swimming pool with a sundeck overlooking the lake. Summit Park View Hotel (* * * *)

Location: 30 minutes drive from the airport or 10 minutes from the city centre just opposite the Peoples Park, near the famous and Majestic Shwedagon Pagoda.
