Inle Princess Resort (* * * / *)

A charming boutique style luxury chalet resort built partially on the lake and on the shore. The Inle Princess Resort is built tastefully in regional style and entirely of wood. The chalet-suites of the IPR represent the highest standards and are most stylish choice of accommodation in the Inle Lake region. The hotel has a NO-NOISE policy. No TV’s are to be found in the rooms and all boats approaching the resort has to switch off their engines 200 meters from the hotel, so as to safeguard the guests' peace and tranquillity.

Location: On the eastern shore of the Inle Lake near the Ma Gyi Sin village. 20 minutes by boat ride away from Nyaung Shwe.

Rooms: The Resort’s simple yet elegantly appointed wooden Chalets are decorated with traditionally crafted furnishings and locally weaved cotton bedspreads. The bed is usually positioned in the centre of the chalet beneath the high rooftop; the front panoramic view glass window provides light filled living and sleeping area. All chalet features cosy and spacious living area and private balcony. As all chalets are built differently from the others the size of the room can vary even in the same category. All chalets feature the following amenities, (shower and bathtub, mini bar, hair dryer, IDD phone). They also have a private terrace, with Inle Lake, private lake/ pond or a mountain view.

Inle Lakeview Resort & Spa (* * * / *) 

A small and charming boutique resort built on the shore of the Inle Lake, offering high standard personalised services and touch of traditional Myanmar architecture, art and décor complemented with delicious cuisine and wines.

Location: On the Western shore in a picturesque area overlooking the Inle lake. 40 minutes by car to the airport, 30 minutes boat ride to Nyaung Shwe.

Rooms: The hotel has a total of 38 rooms, all with amenities such as satellite TV, IDD telephone, A/C, Minibar, Hairdryer and Coffee & Tea making facilities. All offer private bathroom with bathtub.

The 20 tastefully decorated deluxe rooms (45-55 sqm) are located in 2-storey buildings with balconies facing the Inle lake. The interior design is a mix of Burmese colonial era and modern soft tropical touches.

The 16 Junior Suites are also located in the same building complex but are bigger in size (70 sqm) and have a private sun deck veranda. Moreover they offer direct lake views from the bathroom windows as well.

Recently added 2 Lakeside Villas are spacious private villas (100 sqm), secluded from the rest of the hotel complex and closer to the lake shore, offering more privacy to guests. They also have full range of amenities similar to other room types and some additional luxurious touches. The Lakeside Villas offer both garden and lake (canal) views.

Facilities: The Bougainvillea Restaurant (indoor and outdoor on the veranda) offers Myanmar, Indian, Chinese, Shan as well as International culinary treats. Other hotel facilities include Boutique/Souvenir shop, wine lounge & bar.

Myanmar Treasure Resort Inle Lake (* * * / *) 

A charming, well decorated and recently refurbished upper mid range bungalow resort built entirely on stilts over the Inle Lake. Friendly service and good value. Treasure Inle Resort is a typical Treasure group hotel, well looked after and maintained. It has similar decoration to its sister hotels in Bagan and Ngwe Saung.

Location: Built on stilts over Inle Lake close to the Eastern shore. 30 minutes by boat from Nyaung Shwe.

Rooms: All the 49 rooms are tastefully built in private bungalows on stilts over the water in traditional Myanmar style. All have full amenities, including sat TV, telephone, bathtub, hair dryer and a mini bar.The 48 Deluxe rooms are very spacious (70 sqm) and all have a veranda with either garden, mountain or lake view as they are located in a semi circle shape. The rooms have a portable heating system during the winter months. The Suite (80 sqm) is even larger than the deluxe room, it also has lake views and comes with a private Jacuzzi and a fixed heating system.

Inle Resort (* * *) 

Comfortable and well maintained upper middle class bungalow resort built partially on stilts over the water and on the lake shore. The Inle Resort has large beautifully landscaped garden area and an extensive main building. The resort has added recently impressive SPA to it services and features a wide range of treatments to pamper its guests.

Location: On the Eastern shore with magnificent views over Inle Lake. 30 minutes by boat from Nyaung Shwe.

Rooms: All rooms are spacious, tastefully decorated, and fitted with modern amenities. Villas and the Royal Villas are individual cottages, whereas the Deluxe rooms are 2 in each duplex villa unit.All rooms have: Air Conditioning/Heater, Sat TV, Mini Bar, IDD Phone, Coffee & Tea making facilities and a Shower.

The 12 Duplex cottages (40 sqm) share the same construction with other rooms. All have garden view and shower only (no bathtub).

The 18 Villas are larger (80 sqm), have bathtub and a lake view. These rooms also have private verandas.

The 14 Royal Villas are very similar to the other villas (80 sqm), they also have a lake views and as a premium, private Jacuzzis.

Serenity Inle Resort (* * *)  

Recently renovated (2007) upper mid class resort built in traditional local style entirely on stilts. The resort is now under the same management as Inle Princess Resort and major changes have been made to bring the services and facilities to similar level as the highly popular IPR.

Location: On the eastern shore of the Inle Lake, around 50 minutes by boat from Nyaung Shwe.

Rooms: The nicely built 26 bungalow style rooms (49 sqm) all feature private balcony, living area and bathroom with separate hot & cold shower and a bathtub.
Moreover all rooms have sat TV, mini-bar and a safety box.

Facilities: The resort's all day dining restaurant offer traditional Shan & Inntha cuisine, European, Asian and Vegetarian menus. Bar, Gift Shop, small Library, and Internet are also available.

Shwe Inn Tha Floating Resort (* * / *) (Charm) 

Charming upper mid-class hotel built in a unique style on stilts, typical local architecture and original material. One of the best hotels on the lake with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Located amid beautiful lake scenery, not far from Phaung Daw Oo Temple. The only resort to have a swimming pool on the lake.

Location: In the middle of Inle Lake near Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda. 50 minutes by boat from Nyaung Shwe.

Rooms: Superior and Deluxe Cottages as well as one Junior Suite are all constructed on stilts. All rooms are built in a unique design and tastefully decorated with local arts & crafts. Large windows open up to the lake and a private veranda with lounge chairs invites for relaxation. All the bungalows have the following amenities such as A/C, Satellite TV and Mini Bar.The 18 Superior rooms (47 sqm) feature shower only, while the 17 Deluxe rooms are of the same size but also offer bathtub. The Junior Suite is larger in size (88 sqm) and offers a small kitchenette and a living room.

Paradise Inle Resort (* * / *)

The sister hotel of Nyaung Shwe Paradise Hotel. The Paradise Inle offers a charming choice for accommodation in a unique location and is entirely built on stilts over the lake.

Location: In the middle of serene Inle Lake near the Eastern shore and Mine Thauk village, a 30 minutes boat ride from Nyaung Shwe.

Rooms: All the bungalows are built on stilts over the lake. Wooden walkways connect the rooms with the main building containing the reception, restaurant and jetty. Although entirely made of local materials and in local design you do not need to miss the modern comforts. The rooms do not have sat TV or A/C.The rather basic 6 Standard rooms (31 sqm) have Mountain View and shower only.

The 35 Superior rooms have either Lake or Mountain View, and are slightly larger (45 sqm), and have a private balcony and a bathtub. The Deluxe rooms are even more spacious (65 sqm) all have nice views of the lake from their private terrace.

Facilities: At the dining room (100 people can be seated) you will find Myanmar, Chinese and traditional Shan flavours. Souvenir shop.

Sport & Spa: Trekking to the surrounding hills and villages can be arranged. Canoes and fishing lines can be rented.

Golden Island Cottages (* * / *) 

The hotel occupies a prime location of around 10 acres on the surface of the lake, very close to Nan Pan Village. It is a communal project of the Pa-O minority people and was one of the first resorts to be built on the lake.

Location: On the lake itself near lively Nam Pan village, within easy reach of the famous lake sights. 1 hour boat drive from Nyaung Shwe.

Rooms: Natural building materials have been used to construct these bamboo and wooden cottages. The interior furniture and fittings are also largely of local produce and of natural materials such as bamboo and rattan.

The 24 superior bungalows (22sqm) have a terrace with lake view. The room amenities include mini bar, coffee and tea making facilities, shower and hair dryer. (Stand alone bungalow.)

The 16 Standard bungalows (20sqm) are more basic in design and décor. They also have a terrace with lake view but do not have mini bar, coffee and tea making facilities nor hair dryer. (These are also stand alone bungalows.)

The annex rooms (20 sqm) have the same facilities as the standard rooms but are not stand alone building, meaning that they share the same construction with other rooms.

Facilities: The main building houses reception, a restaurant with open terrace and a souvenir shop.

HOTELS IN NYAUNG SHWE

Amazing Hotel, Nyaung Shwe (* *)

Good middle class hotel combining the best of traditional Myanmar architectural style with all Modern conveniences. The hotel is ideally located in the middle of town and guests can enjoy the town-view from the cosy Bar Montanya.

Location: On the bank of Mai Li Stream. In Nyaung Shwe town within walking distance to all shops and restaurants. 1hr drive away from Heho airport.

Rooms: The hotel has 15 nicely decorated rooms, all are equipped with A/C, sat TV, mini-bar, telephone, coffee and tea making facilities. All rooms have a small private veranda or balcony. The 12 Deluxe rooms (28.5 sqm) have all the above mentioned facilities and come with a shower. The 2 Suites are bigger (32 sqm) and have a bathtub.

The Amazing Suite is the largest of all (48 sqm) and has an extra bedroom attached and offers more sat-TV channels.

Paradise Hotel (* *)

Small, simple but clean family run hotel with warm and friendly atmosphere.

Location: In the gateway to Inle Lake in the small town of Nyaung Shwe. Quiet area near the museum, within a walking distance to the local market. Heho airport is 1hr drive away.

Rooms: All rooms are equipped with air-conditioning, satellite TV and mini-bar 12 older standard rooms with bathtub in 2 storey building with small balconies overlooking a courtyard (22 sqm).

18 superior Bungalow rooms (21 sqm) are located in large chalet style building with big terraces. These rooms have shower only.

1 spacious suite room, with small living room and bathtub (40 sqm).

HOTELS IN KALAW

Hill Top Villa (***)

Bungalow chalet type mountain resort built of wood and stones. Wonderful views over the surroundings areas, pleasant atmosphere all amid a well kept garden.

Location: In a quiet location on top of a Kalaw Hill, overlooking the town. 1½ hour (30 km) drive from Heho airport, 1½ hour from Pindaya and 2 hours from Nyaung Shwe.

Rooms: 24 Superior wooden chalets (38 sqm) are divided into 2 groups.16 Front Side Superiors all have a fireplace and view over Kalaw Town. The remaining 8 Superiors do not have town view nor do they have open fireplace. The 2 family suite rooms are larger in size (60 sqm) and are two storey buildings. These chalets have own open fireplaces and a large verandas. All rooms have the amenities include: Sat TV, Telephone, Minibar and a Bathtub.

Pine Hill Reost (* * *)

Nicely built colonial style hotel, all rooms are located inside wooden bungalows, either one story or two storeys tall. The hotel is surrounded by an extensive and well kept garden and offers a pleasant and relaxing experience.

Location: On a scenic hill, within 20min walking distance to the centre of Kalaw town, overlooking the delightful hill station. 1½ hour (30 km) drive from Heho airport, 1½ hour from Pindaya and 2 hours from Nyaung Shwe.

Rooms: 16 Superior rooms (22 sqm) are all located in bungalows and have all standard amenities such as satellite TV, mini-bar, air-conditioning, telephone, shower and a small terrace.

The 16 Deluxe rooms are much larger in size (55 sqm), 12 of them are located in 2-storey buildings with a large communal sitting area and an open fire place. The remaining four are located in private bungalows with small verandas. All the deluxe rooms have, in addition to above amenities, bathtubs.

Amara Resort (* * *)

This Colonial style mansion was originally built in 1909 and restored in 2002. Amara Resort feels more like a colonial country side house rather than a hotel. The residence is surrounded by a nice garden where organic vegetables and plants are grown. Privacy, tranquillity and comfort await you here in Southern Shan's state hills. It really feels like travelling back in time to the era of the British Empire.

Location: On a scenic hill, very private and close to town. 1½ hour (30 km) drive from Heho airport, 1½ hours from Pindaya and 2 hours from Nyaung Shwe.

Rooms: All the 10 deluxe rooms are very tastefully built in traditional colonial style, and are very spacious (size does vary for all rooms, between 27sqm and 45 sqm) and all have an open fireplace.

The rooms are built different from one to another but they all have standard amenities; A/C, Sat TV, telephone, bathtub or shower. A fruit basket is always provided on arrival.

Facilities: Restaurant serving a variety Asian and western dishes (including home baked bread) and a great selection of coffees. There is a fireplace in the dining room to warm in the cool evenings during the winter months.

Dream Villa (*)

Simple, but cosy small hotel in a 3-storey modern building near all services of the Kalaw town.

Location: In a peaceful small lane near a monastery of the town. 1½ hour (30 km) drive from Heho airport, 1½ hour from Pindaya and 2 hours from Nyaung Shwe.

Rooms: 19 Standard and 5 Superior rooms with bathroom attached. Dining room.

New Shine Hotel (*)

2-storey country town hotel with annex.

Location: Within walking distance to Kalaw market. 1½ hour (30 km) drive from Heho airport, 1½ hour from Pindaya and 2 hours from Nyaung Shwe.

Rooms: 36 basic rooms with TV, mini-bar, hot and cold shower. Some rooms can be noisy as they overlook the main road.

Facilities: Restaurant serving Chinese and Myanmar food.

HOTELS IN PINDAYA

Conqueror Hotel (* * *)

Cosy lower middle class hotel near the Pindaya Caves. The compound consists of richly decorated main building, surrounded by wooden chalets and traditional houses in a large property and of a tea plantation. The Pindaya Caves can be seen from the entrance of the hotel and they are easily reached on foot from the hotel.

Location: Near the foot of Shwe U-Min Pagoda Hill within walking distance to the famous Pindaya Caves. 2 hours drive from Heho airport, 2 hours from Nyaung Shwe and1½ hours from Kalaw.

Rooms: The 44 Superior rooms (23 sqm) are all built in bungalow style (each bungalow unit includes 2 rooms). All the rooms have standard amenities such Sat TV, A/C, mini bar and shower. Junior Suite (33 sqm) and Suite (58 sqm) are much larger, have bathtubs and private fireplaces. These are situated in individual buildings.

The Standard rooms are quite small (around 15 sqm) and are built in traditional style of bamboo. These very simple and basic rooms have shower only and do not have TV but have a small private kitchen.
