BEACH LEISURE

Ngapali Beach Extension
(Yangon/Bagan/Heho-Ngapali Beach-Yangon)

Myanmar’s coastline is a dream comes true for worshipers of sun, sea and sand. Kilometres of white un-spoilt white sand beaches fringed with coconut groves invite travellers who love to swim, sunbathe, snorkel or stroll along the ocean.

Ngapali Beach in the Bay of Bengal is Myanmar’s most prestigious seaside resort. It is conveniently accessible from the capital city as well as from major up-country destinations. Ngapali Beach can be reached by a 45-minutes flight from Yangon and Bagan or 1 hour 15 minutes from Heho. Even though there is land route from Pyay or Yangon to Ngapali, it is not suggested because the road is not good enough to travel and it takes very long time.

Ngapali Beach is still, truly undiscovered paradise, far away from tourist crowds. There are no noisy beach bars, no discos, no jet-skis and no rows of suntan-oiled bodies basking in the sun. White sand, the natural scenic beauty of the blue sea, swaying palm trees and privacy are guaranteed ingredients of a beach holiday at Ngapali Beach.

Active visitors will choose to hire a boat to explore offshore islands, rent bicycles for a trip to the fisherman villages or visit the colourful local market in Thandwe (Sandoway). Some of the hotels offer beach activities including surfing and boating.

The 10 kilometre long Ngapali Beach as well as Ngapali Bay are dotted with charming boutique style resorts built in local style. There are no high rises, no noisy roads and no white tiled hotel buildings. The resorts’ architecture blends harmoniously with the natural surroundings. Whereas the first resorts of international standard opened in 1999, new projects were completed in 2004 and several properties will open in the next few years. Today there is a vast choice of accommodation catering to the demands and budgets of every traveller.

Ngapali Beach is a seasonal destination and most hotels close during the monsoon season from mid May to mid October.

All hotels offer a choice of restaurants including Western and Asian cuisine. There are also several local restaurants within walking distance to the hotels where local dishes in particular fish and sea food are served.

Ngwe Saung Beach Extension
(Yangon-Ngwe Saung-Yangon)

Ngwe Saung Beach is located approximately 270 km to the west of Yangon and 35 km Northwest of Pathein (Bassein) and is reached after a 5-6 hour car journey from Yangon. The journey from Yangon to Ngwe Saung takes guests through rural Irrawaddy Delta landscapes and small villages, river crossings and local markets.

It can be reached either by car (5/6 hour) from Yangon to Ngwe Saung Beach or by charter boat (River Cruise/Expedition Delta with RV Mahaythi) from Yangon to Pathein or by a 20 minute flight by Air Bagan twice a week from Yangon to Pathein and then by hotel shuttle buses to Ngwe Saung Beach.

The Ngwe Saung area is home to lush natural green forests and casuarinas trees. The un-spoilt 15 km of white powdery sand beach at the Bay of Bengal invites travellers to relax under tropical coconut palm trees. Ngwe Saung Beach is the ideal retreat for guests seeking a peaceful and quiet atmosphere, loving to swim in crystal blue waters and enjoying the sun.

Besides beach activities such as swimming, windsurfing and snorkelling guests can visit small fishing villages and local markets, explore the countryside by bicycle or enjoy a boat trip to one of the offshore islands. Outside the hotels activities are limited and so is the choice of restaurants.

Ngwe Saung Beach is a seasonal destination and most hotels close during the monsoon season from mid May to mid October.

Many choices of international quality luxury resorts serve authentic sensation, tranquility and peacefulness. The varieties of foods are also available.
